Article Marketing Basics

Article Marketing is one of the ways to make money online these days. You take 10-15 minutes to write a refined 300-400 word article for about 2-4 hours a day and you can easily make $20-30 a day (depending on where you submit to).

Introduction:

What people do not also realize is that if you submit to the right places, and market your article the way it should be done, then you also have extra traffic and quality link backs. These articles are pretty short and basically conveys an idea or concept that you should be familiar with (before writing it), like I do with this blog. I tend to avoid writing about things if I have not yet experienced them, so this blog is as much of my journey as it is yours.

Why I post about what I do:

We’ve discussed in previous posts why content is key, why quality backlinks are crucial, what SEO mistakes to avoid and how SEO-friendly permalinks are awesome. What does all of this have to do with articles? Simple. Articles = Content for YOU. You include links (to your site) which increase quality backlinks (do not spam with hundreds of links in your article, that is poor sport).

By looking at this blog, it is beginning to have a nice amount of quality content on it. You can see that by how my subscribers almost doubled overnight after I posted my traffic stats and profits for about 4 hours of work all week. (mainly blog posts, article submissions and proxy tweaking). Once a website or blog has quality content, it is definitely on its way to being visible.

What now?

Lets say you have a blog/website about acne (one of the higher-paying adsense niches, by the way), and you want to get some quality backlinks. What do you do? You find article directories and submit articles about acne (about 400-500 words each). You do not just copy-paste your blog posts or already index threads, you re-word as much as possible. Why? Google does not like duplicate content and if enough is floating around then it might hurt your quality score.

A Sad Realization:

The bottom line, there are millions of websites out there struggling to gain visibility. You need visibility to get visitors, and visitors to get clicks/sales (depending on which way you plan on making money). The goal of these articles is not to sell a product (which is slowly saturating many article directories), but to ’sell’ your website and basically position you to being an expert in your field (whether you are or not).

Why be like the others who are constantly trying to spam their clickbank products over article directories? Although, yes, it can be profitable, but its rather poor taste in my opinion. Instead, provide quality information (that you already know) and link it back to your site for ‘more tips and tricks’ (or whatever your angle may be *evil-eyes you*). Remember, an article should NOT be an advertisement, but more so a gateway to more knowledge and useful information.

A Few Article Directories:

I have stumbled upon a few of the higher PR article directories which you can submit to. I do not submit to 100’s of them, just a few. I have not even started submitting about money making, or else I’d get some nice traffic gains for ThinkBlogger - im not in a rush, I just wish to deliver content/tips.

Things to Remember:

  • Do not submit duplicate content (I know, a drag).
  • Do whatever is necessary to NOT sound like an advertisement.
  • Know your topic, do not write about something you just read on wikipedia and claim yourself an expert.
  • Article Directories are a bit of a dying breed now. If you want PR3-5 Article Directories (for mass submissions), leave a comment! I have a whole list I can give to you for free.

Proxy Money = Real Money

The Beginning:

Proxies are the greatest thing ever. The majority of people who like to use proxies are school students (trying to log onto Myspace/Youtube/Hotmail) through a proxy, or people at work. They let you surf websites which are normally blocked by your provider/network.

Starting up a proxy can be fun, luxurious, and easy. Now-a-days, the scripts are provided and it is all pretty much plug-and-play. No need to know html, java, php; it’s all done for you. (Aren’t we all just spoiled?).

There is an abundance of proxy sites out there. Hundreds of more proxies are started every week. It’s all about business. If you plan on hosting a proxy, you can kiss your sweet $4.99/mo hosting package goodbye! It’s a sad realization. The majority (if not all) shared hosting providers disallow the use of proxies on their system. Why? They use up too much bandwidth for what they are worth. (not because they are illegal or shady, despite what some hosts say). It all comes down to how much power you suck out of the company.

If you try to put it on a shared host, it may last for a bit (depending on how successful it is), but once you start raking in the traffic and money, your host will boot it. It’s inevitable. Sorry to be the one to burst your bubble.

There are alternatives, of course. There are hosts out there that do allow the use of proxies, though they are mostly Virtual Private Servers (or resellers that use VPS’s). You will be paying a considerably higher amount per month to run proxies on these servers (but of course, if you market well, it can be worth it).

While you start up your own proxy, you can end up making money through various ways. The first obvious choice is google adsense. You place the ads on your proxy and voila! if people click the ads, you get money! (not much, but some - the clicks can add up).

Your foot in the Door:

While starting up your proxy (or chains of proxies), you have to remember one thing. Traffic = clicks. The more traffic you get, the more potential clicks you can get. Note how I say potential. You cannot just slap together a proxy site by using a free template and expect to get clicks. You have to advertise it, reorder the position of the ads so their most clickfriendly, blend the ads, make the proxy site appealing, etc etc.

Two examples of proxy sites would include:

ThinkProxy Unfind.info

Anyway, back to business. You should use google adsense on the main page, and if you wanted to get a little extra somethin’-somethin’, you would put a CPM network ad on the proxified page. (Adbrite usually works for me).

Now, can it be profitable? Yes! Will everyone find profit? No. You have to work at it. Right now, I have 4 proxies. I spent hours marketing each one on topsites, directories, forums, mailing lists, etc. I spent equal to that amount of time trying to find the best SEO tricks to use for my proxies and submit to search engines, etc.

I started off low (and was a bit frustrated), but now it is pretty much on autopilot. I do not touch them (unless for slight maintenance or shifting the meta tags a bit). Each of my proxies earn me anywhere between $1 to $2.30 a day. That may be low, but think of it this way. 4 proxies X 1.60 = $6.40 a day. $6.40 a day X 30 days in a month = 192.

Thats $192 a month in my pocket, on autopilot! That is only with 4 proxies. I could easily add 10 more proxies to my system and ride out the profit. I also used 1.60 as somewhere within my average per proxy, just so you wouldn’t get too pumped up. I do not even touch these proxies anymore (but if I did, it would be more profits for me).

My server costs are about $40/month. Some of you may think it’s outrageously high, but you know what? Not for proxies. Though a bit of experience and luck is required. You can easily make that money back. I am also in the midst of starting up a proxy host company which will REALLY help new proxy owners get adjusted. So if anyone does need any help setting up, leave me a comment on this post.

I know some people who make over $700/month using proxies/proxy networks. I also know people who can make a decent living selling off Coded Proxy Templates.

This is just one way of making money. I will go more in-depth with proxies in the future. (probably closer to the opening of my proxy host - prices are locked and will start at about $2.99/month working up)

In my next post I will discuss how to monetize your proxy. Which directories to submit to. What newsletters to subscribe to.

Clickbank: An amazing affiliate tool to make money!

So, you want to make money? Enough money so that you do not have to work a part time job anymore? If you want some cheap and fast-pitched money, go elsewhere. If you are looking to constantly make a good amount of money a day so you could quick your day job or part-time job, then read on! Affiliate marketing is the greatest thing on the internet. It allows an average person (even someone who does not know how to code a website using PHP/Mysql) a chance to earn more money than their day job! I am not saying that it’s easy, but its quite enjoyable once you get the ball rolling.

If you are looking for a good affiliate to soak your feet into and get a bit of profit, then this is for you. (Meaning: you should read on ;) ). Now, I will say this upfront, everyone likes money! If you do not, then stop reading this blog. The purpose of ThinkBlogger.org is to provide a generalized basis of how to gain money, whether it be through affiliate marketing, PPC, or any other method. Other methods will be added and reviewed.

The first in affiliate marketing that I will talk about is Clickbank. Its a rather nifty Affiliate Marketing website. Check it out here!

This is a remarkable program for anyone to try out (for free). It is very easy to sign up with them and it does not even cost you a penny. It is very useful if you have your own website in the niche you wish to be advertising. (You can never look bad if you come prepared ;) ), though not necessary.

Affiliate publishers can earn anywhere between 5%-70% commission on sales of products. This is phenomenal. There are hundreds of not thousands of merchants to choose from with over 12000 digital products. There are definitely opportunities for anyone that joins clickbank (both publisher and advertiser), especially if you work hard.

As a publisher, linking to the clickbank merchant is a major plus. With the clickbank manager, you can track where your sales come from and everything is pretty much automated (which is nice). Also, if a visitor comes from your link and decides not to buy, but changes their mind later (monitored through cookies, I suppose), you will receive the credit, no matter how they got back to the site. These cookies are tracked for 90 days. So if you show someone a site through your referral link, and they look at it, but decide not to buy that moment. They come back 20 days later by just entering in the site. Guess what? you can get the commission from that! (Yay for cookies).

That is one side of the cookie, but now for the other side. An advertiser or Merchant. As a seller, you can set up an account with clickbank for a one-time fee. (It is definitely worth it). If you think you have what it takes to write up something brilliant and sell it, then go for it! People make tons of money by doing it!

After they have approved your pages (which is done rather quickly), you can set a price and you are in! It cannot be easier. Of course, that is the easy part. The harder part is, infact, to make something decent enough for people to read.

Best part, the Clickbank Program is not limited to the US (a lot of them are), so international merchants are accepted. All payments will be issued in USD currency.

Now, for the fun part. Don’t think you can make something up and sell it for money? Don’t think you can make web pages to publisher products that your not even interested in? Worry not! Try to bring people to join clickbank! The referral system is great! (sorry, shameless advertising). If you refer someone, you can get a small portion of their sales profit! It will not come out of their pockets, but Clickbank itself!

Clickbank watches all visitors and tracks them by using cookies from your link. When the commission is credited, your order is then placed and accepted! Simple as that!

So lets quickly recap, shall we? (because I like seeing myself type)! You can earn money from clickbank by:

1) becoming a publisher: Create websites and ‘hop’-links which are basically referrals to advertisers pages/products. If someone buys something from that site (within 90 days) you can get credited!

2) becoming an advertiser: So you think you have some creative genes? Create something refreshing on a topic that you know much on. If you think it could sell, then why not sell it? (it is suggested to get someone to help you with the website if you do not know much on designing - the last thing you want is to sell a hundred dollar idea on a two dollar website)

3) becoming a referral agent: So you don’t think you can create ebooks or sell people products. Do you think you can refer some people with some hard-earned honesty?

Anyway, these are just the basics. There is much to learn, but one can easily make $500 day on profits (or even more), using Clickbank alone. I’ve talked to a few of them myself.

Remember Though: You must put forth the effort before you can find the right way. With enough effort and determination, you could make a very good living off of Clickbank or any other affiliate programs (which I will discuss in the future). The majority of the money I make is made automatically by me, and the feeling is great!

Switching to an affiliate system over PPC or “Pay per Click” sites is a big change, a scary change, but a change into the direction that could make you money!
